God Bless you brother  / Erick Guidinetti (Served with Mike twice )
I had the priviledge of serving with Mike In Italy and as Ranger School instructors. We went through Ranger School together and served in Iraq together. Mike was a good friend a great person and a great American. Mike cared about his fellow soldiers and would do anything for them except share dairy products. I asked him for a sip of a milkshake once at the airport and I got a science lesson how germs travel through dairy products easier than other ones. He was a funny guy and I miss him dearly. I only recently found out he made the ultimate sacrifice. My heart and condolences go out to his family. God Bless you Mike...Erick Close

1SG Curry I will remember our times together while with 2nd Bn 503rd and at HHC 173rd Abn Bde. We had rough times and good times in OIF and our first OEF tour but your presence sure made it easier. The privilege was all mine to work along side a professional NCO as your self and I would have proudly served under you as your Commo Sgt. You will be missed and you certainly will not be forgotten. Sleep well my friend.

God bless and comfort you  / David Rogers (son Jessy was KIA w/ Michael )
Our loved ones were KIA together. It's been a rough couple of years. I started a thread on Hannity forums that helped me deal with the pain of losing my son. The thread is in the "America at war" catagory and is titled "is getting wounded or KIA" worth it. Serious question. serious answers only." This thread and the comments from very understanding individuals helped me a great deal. I now can function after the terrible loss. I pray you all are recovering as well. God bless you for your loss and sacrifice. Your friend Dave Rogers. Close

1SG Curry, I will miss you until the day we see one another in heaven. Everyday I think of what you meant to me as a friend and as a soldier. My tears  of sorrow have been replaced by tears of joy because when I see your boy's I know your legacy will live through them. Our time together was far to short but the time we did share together I will always cherish.

We spent 365 days together in Afghanistan sharing stories and smoking cigars! I will never forget the day you took up playing the gutiar! You asking me, " J how does that sound?" I didn't know weather to  tell you the truth or keep encouraging you to practice!  In the end you did get better. (SMILE)  I look back all the time and laugh at the the things we said or done to one another!

You taught me what true friendship is and I will never forget you!

Missing you forever,

J

Michael,

As I think about you and the great young man you became, it brings me much comfort.  Although my heart is still heavy at times because I feel you had to meet our God to soon for all of us but yet at the appointed time that God planned.  I remember Christmas 2004 when you came to the states with your family and how much I admired you.  Gosh I was so very proud of you.  I pray every night for Lucia, Kevin and Taylor and ask God to watch over them.

Rest my loving nephew in the arms of our Lord and Savior.  You fought a good fight, you kept the faith and earned your wings as our Angel.

Love, Auntie Andrea

I miss you brother  / Richard Weik (His Command Sergeant Major )

Hey Mike,

I write this today as I just found this website. I cannot begin to tell you how much I miss you and respect you or how many times a day I think about you. We stood up Battle Company together. We took them through training together and we took them to Iraq the first time. I still remember you covered in mud on Bashur DZ enforcing standards and taking care of your boys. We stood up D/1-503 together and we took them to Afghanistan. I still replay that day in July when you were taken from us. Brother, I still cannot find the words to express how much you meant to your brother 1SG's, the boys, to this battalion and to me. You fought for your boys every minute of everyday, and performed like a true professional when the decision was made.

After you were gone, your boys fought and performed with the excellance and professionalism you embedded deep into their character. They watched after each other, fought for each other and made this horrible world just a little bit better. Every single day I think about you and your sacrifice. I know you are still watching down on the boys, and I am sure you are proud of what they accomplished for freedom.

Mike, I will never forget you. Rest in peace First Sergeant

CSM Weik

Goodbye / Randy Collins (Co-worker/Friend)
Mike,
I am leaving Afghanistan today after 436 days.  I have never written on here before as I just couldn't bring myself to do it yet.  But, I just couldn't leave without writing.  It would feel cheap doing it from my house in Italy and not from the dirt where you died.  I know you heard me at your Memorial and everything I said was true.  It has almost been a year now, only a few days until the date.  When the boss called me and told me what had happened to you, I couldn't believe it.  I was blown away.  I never thought this could happen to you.  We have been through so much together from Iraq to working together last year in Kandahar and being fellow First Sergeants this year.  You were the first person I met in the Rock besides George and I will always remember the good times we have had around the world.  The First Rock boys are in good hands now and most of the are safely back home.  There won't be anymore bad stuff this year for us.  Just watch over us the rest of the way...
Rest now...we'll take it from here.. Close

You were my little brother that grew up to me my hero.  It's hard everyday waking up and going to bed knowing that I won't hear your voice or feel that tight hug you give when we see eachother, it hurts and then I cry because you were the best brother a sister could ask for.  I am so proud of the man became and the life you made for you and your family.  I look at your picture everyday just to put a small on my face.  I'm not mad at you and the career you decided to pursue, I'm mad at the cause because there was not valid reason for the out come.  I love you with all my heart where you have and always will remain.  Your big sister.

A Hero  / Tom Rogers (Served in Italy with Michael )  Read >>
A Hero  / Tom Rogers (Served in Italy with Michael )

I served with Michael in Italy in the early 1990s... I was at his beautiful wedding...  I had not had contact with him for many years, and had not heard the news until a few minutes ago when I stumbled upon a picture of him in the Wall St. Journal online.

I am deeply saddened at this news.  I hope his family is somehow finding ways to fill the Michael-sized hole in their lives.  It has to be tough.

The Michael Curry I knew was the perfect balance between warrior and a caring, genuine, friendly human being -- a rare and wonderful combination.  When he left to go to Ranger School, I remember people wondering if this really nice guy was tough enough to make it through.  How silly.  They didn't know that under that big heart of his was backed by an iron will.

I hope his children will carry on his legacy.  Be tough, be strong -- but never stop caring deeply about your fellow humans.  For this alone he is a hero.  Add to it his military service to us all, his dedication to his soldiers and you have a hero in the truest sense of the word.

It was an honor to serve with such a fine human being.

I woke about 5:00 this morning with you on my mind. As I laid there I couldn't stop the tears that are now once again running down my face. Like you, I have never been the emotional sibling, crying isn't my thing. But I'm sad that you left behind a wife and two boys that need you, for something I'm not sure was worth it(THIS WAR). I'm not mad because you made the decision to go, that was who you were. I'm mad you didn't come back....I'm proud of the man you became, proud of the husband and father you were and proud to have had you for a brother.   Close

All I can say is what a tragic loss...to the Airborne community, the Army, but most of all to the family!  I knew "SSG" Curry at the S3 Air guy and PSG in B co -  he was great to work with and truly exhibited the spirit of a "professional" soldier.

To the family....I wish you the best
To the Airborne brothers...1SG Curry, I know, left behind some tough boots to fill - lets all step up.  He was certainly an inspiration to me!!  Close

A Soldier  / Nicole (Met Lavette on Veterans Day )
A Soldier

There is discipline in A Soldier
you can see it when he walks,
There is honor in A Soldier
you hear it when he talks.
There is courage in A Soldier
you can see it in his eyes,
There is loyalty in A Soldier
that he will not compromise.
There is something in A Soldier
that makes him stand apart,
There is strength in A Soldier
that beats from his heart.
A Soldier isn't a title any man
can be hired to do,
A Soldier is the soul of that man
buried deep inside of you.
A Soldier's job isn't finished after
an 8 hour day or a 40 hour week,
A Soldier is always A Soldier
even while he sleeps.
A Soldier serves his country first
and his life is left behind,
A Soldier has to sacrifice what
comes first in a civilian's mind.
If you are civilian -
I am saying this to you.....
next time you see A Soldier
remember what they do.
A Soldier is the reason our land
is 'Home of the free',
A Soldier is the one that is brave
protecting you and me.
If you are A Soldier -
I am saying this to you.....
Thank God for EVERY SOLDIER
Thank God for what YOU do!

I remember SSG. Curry (sqad leader at the time) always working with his troops and teaching the young troopers how to be better soldiers.  He was a tough but fair leader, who only wanted to see his sqad grow in their knowledge.  He was a good man who will always be Remembered.

My prayers are with his family and friends.. Close

I cant believe its been 3 months and 8 days since Michael
and my son Jessys passing. If they didnt have much time to really
get to know each other then, they are sure able to get caught up
now! I know one of Jessys wishes was, that if he didnt make it back
from Afghanistan, that I would keepup with writing his buddies. Its so sad that this sort of tradgedy has broughten us together, Lavette, but Im sure Michael and Jessy are smiling down on us, so very very pleased that we are honoring their memory, in this small way, by staying in touch, supporting each other with words of encouragement, and announcing to the world that our guys and gals are NOT fighting in vain... that step by step, our soldiers are daily giving their lives and limbs for ,OUR FREEDOMS , that we here in this GREAT USA sometimes take soooo much for granted. I will never be complacent again! A life given for my freedom, is just one too many...Thankyou from the bottom of my heart Michael! You fought a good fight...Jessy will have to introduce us someday...I want you to know that Ill also keep up the good fight, here! Everyone who meets me will know, "Our Freedom Isnt Free"! I will honor you and my son Jessy, as well as all the others who have gone before us.... by REMEMBERING! Takecare Lavette...you and yours are in my prayers...Gods richest blessings!
Sincerely, The Proud mama of PFC Jessy Scott Rogers Close

The Fallen
Written by Andrea Senter

They never thought when they left here
their families they'd see no more
No one dares to think about
The high price of such a war.

If you asked them why they did it
They'd say because it was right
Someone has to stand up
And someone has to fight

A world away they defend our cause,
as we tuck our kids in bed.
Some give all for all of us,
And somewhere tears will be shed.

They do not ask for fame or fortune
Just that we recognize
We are here, free, today,
Because the fallen have paid the price.

I am so sorry for you loss. I lost my brother Marine Cpl. Rusty Washam February 14, 2006 in Iraq by a suicide bomber he was only 21. People keep saying it will get easier as time goes by its been alittle over a year since we lost Rusty and it still feels like yesterday. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. May God Bless you and help heal your Broken Hearts from this huge loss.
My brother has a site to it is rusty-washam.memory-of.com
